Wild Turkeys in Jeopardy?

It's with a heavy heart that I have to openly question the Turkey brand.  After being unable to field a regular team all season, we're now going in to the fall season two years in a row without softball.  Add to that the inability to even field 10 guys each week, one has to question the future of the franchise.  Lets go out these last few weeks with plenty of smiles and beers cause there's no telling what the future holds.

When you come from down 12 runs before you even bat and win the game, it's pretty clear that the team earned this week's award.  Great attitude and effort by the Turkeys in game 1....

We may have lost another two games, but all was not lost on the benches where smiles filled the dugout with warmth and happiness.  It was a close call this week, with both Derek and Colin very deserving of the award.  It really came down to 2 things.  1) I didn't really know what Derek was doing at the time, but while he was catching he had a really funny look on his face, causing me to be a little distracted and walking a batter.  After the inning he told me what he was doing, and it all made sense.  He was putting his smile on display for me to see, but with the grizzly adams length of beard, it resembled something a little more out of The Shining.  Too bad it freaked me out on the mound.  And 2) Colin's a dentist.  He brought a tin of chew.  Enough said.  Congratulations to Colin on a smile well done.  We've got two more games tomorrow night, so there'll be plenty of opportunities for smiles.

The Smiley Award

Tied to the loss of a couple great locker room guys, the Wild Turkey win/loss record has gone in the tank.  Thanks to new leadership though, this clubhouse ain't going to turn Gilbert Arenas on each other.  At the encouragement of our skipper, we're measuring this season on the number of smiles on our faces.  So with that we will be giving out a weekly Smiley Award for the Wild Turkey that exhibits the best attitude, defined by not only the smiles on their faces, but the vibe they're putting out.  Last week's clear winner was Joe Byers.  Without his smile and amazingly chipper attitude, we would have gone more than 0-2 in those games.  A big thanks to Joe for his presence last week.  Who will step to the plate this week?  Check back to see....
